

That is no accident: that is a picture of Jesus done by painter Warner Sallman in 1940. It was given to tens of thousands of American soldiers in the Second World War and is, in fact, probably the most reproduced picture of Jesus in all of history: at least a half billion copies of it have been made. It looks kind of like something from an American shampoo ad. That is no accident either: Sallman made a living partly in advertising.
Jesus was from the Middle East. In his time men in the Holy Land looked more like the man on the right, which is based on a skull from first century Palestine. These days he might get pulled aside at an American airport as a suspected terrorist.

Well, Jesus WAS a terrorist, don'tcha know. Lord knows, we sure could use another superhero like that to chase the moneychangers from our temple.
